ANTONELLA BARBA - SEASON 6 AMERICAN IDOL
Antonella Barba burst
onto the scene at the New York auditions of American Idol in January 2007 with a
breath-taking performance of Deniece Williams' "Free." Antonella's natural
charisma, powerful pipes and stunning looks carried her all the way to Idol's
Top 16, where she demonstrated her soul-pop chops with a confident rendition of
Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On".
Antonella's appearance
on Idol was accompanied by some controversy after sexy photos of her were leaked
on the internet, garnering her world-record Google status among millions of
eager new fans.
Instead of diving
headfirst into the music biz, Antonella earned her degree in architecture while
honing her singing skills with rigorous vocal training and a few strategic
public performances. Now poised for stardom, she has been working on original
material with Emmy-nominated songwriter/producer Dan Mackenzie (recent credits:
Joss Stone and Martin Sexton), with whom she co-wrote "Jersey
Girl."
Asked why she chose to
release a song independently before shopping for a big record deal, Antonella
explains: "I grew up on the Jersey Shore and I just thought this would be a
really cool time to see if I could make some waves on my own first."
It was shot on June 5 at Point Pleasant Beach, NJ (and at Lake
Como, NJ)
